Dr. Edward Pratt, founder of Memphis Spine Center, was born in Southern California, and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder Colorado, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Molecular Biology, Magna Cum Laude in 1977. He attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee graduating in 1981, and moved to Memphis to complete his general surgery and orthopedic residency at the University of Tennessee and Campbell Clinic in 1986. Dr. Pratt returned to Vanderbilt in 1988 to complete his spine fellowship through the Division of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation under the direction of Dr. Dan Spengler. He returned to Memphis in 1989 and has been practicing spine and joint reconstruction surgery in Memphis ever since. In 2003 he earned his M.B.A. in Healthcare Management from Regis University in Denver, graduating at the top of his class with a straight 4.0 average in graduate studies.

In 1998, Dr. Pratt co-founded SPINEmemphis, gaining valuable experience in building and developing spine care centers. He has lectured extensively in the United States and Latin America on topics ranging from Kyphoplasty and minimal access spine fusion, to business models for spine centers, and interdisciplinary physical therapy/nurse practitioner/spine surgeon teams. He has served as research investigator for the Advantage Ceramic total hip replacement, and MIIGX3 Kyphoplasty bone filler in vertebral fractures.

Dr. Pratt has published articles on traumatic disc herniation in the journal SPINE, written chapters in several textbooks on total hip replacement & hip fractures and articles on manual therapy & spinal disorders. He has appeared as TV medical expert numerous times on topics ranging from joint replacement to minimally invasive spine surgery. He has served as a paid consultant for Medtronic Inc., Wright Medical Technologies, Inc. and Kyphon, Inc. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and fellow of the North American Spine Society, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has one of the busier complex spine practices in the Mid South.

Dr. Pratt lives in Germantown with his wife Maite de Lamerens, MD a well respected Memphis Pediatrician, and their three children, Gregory, Meredith, and Benjamin. He also enjoys spending time with his family, writing, boating, playing guitar, singing, and his two retrievers "Nala" and “Tyler.”
